Middle school students naturally are more independent than elementary school students. Most of them can make it to school independently by walking or biking. However, each family needs to evaluate their child's ability to navigate a safe route to school.
Biking and walking to school builds a critical foundation of road skills that make a child a safer driver when he or she starts to drive. Equally important, reduced auto congestion makes the school site safer, and children benefit from the exercise.
Resources on how to get to school can be found at each middle school's web site under the transportation and traffic safety portion of the site. Each middle school provides a safe place to store bikes and information about how to commute to school safely. For more information, please contact your school's PTA President or Traffic Safety Representative.
